The Final Frontier

The Final Frontier

This series was taken while I was wanting to kill a couple of hours in between business appointments in central Melbourne. This goes to show the logic in keeping your gear with you at all times. Never leave home without your Nikon in the trunk. You never know when a great photographic opportunity will present itself. The weather was very overcast with the sunshine trying to burst through the clouds. Obviously this situation will lead itself to very dramatic looking sky's.

Further to enhance this dramatic effect I used a Hoya R72 Infrared Filter to push the envelope even more. This gives a dream-like effect to the image with incredible depth of field and contrast. Long exposures are mandatory with this style of shooting and a heavy and sturdy tripod is essential for sharp detail.

No further post production was done in Photoshop CS2. The key to getting the amazing colour you see here is to correctly set the White Balance in Camera at the time of capture. It is very hard to duplicate this accurately by digital means afterwards.
